My Thesis....DAY 1 -- Part I & II

So, now I'm officially doing something I never thought I'd do...blog

Sorry if someone with real ambitions of creating an "MBA Researcher" blog is out there. I figured I'm in my MBA program and I need to do research via a blog...so why not "mbaresearcher"

"Help me graduate"...speaks for itself...hopefully the blog world has some useful information to help me.

I guest when you are desperate to get answers you'll try anything. In my case, I need to graduate from Syracuse in May with my MBA. I'm in my capstone program at this moment and I need to develop a business plan. The idea, not so hard (read below), the market research...different story.

Let's get this party started...

Day 1 on the blog: Part I - Who am I?

My name is Matt Kelly and I'm the Director of Talent for Amarr Garage Doors. My role is mainly O.D. with a strong emphasis on assessment, training, and succession planning. I have implemented an Assessment Center that has been running for 3 years now and I'm currently seeking to leverage this experience in writing my thesis for my MBA. I currently live in North Carolina, from Massachusetts originally, and did undergrad at Syracuse as well. Pretty boring…I'm not sure I enjoy writing, but I guess I'll see and you'll see!

About this MBA thing...I'm in the iMBA program at Syracuse finishing my 3rd and final year (yes it is an extended program which allows me my weekends...most of the time...and live and work in NC). I'm at the capstone stage and need to develop my thesis around why AC's are a good investment in time and resources. The end result will be a business plan that will be graded and determine my fate!

My shortcoming is that I've been pretty insular during my AC design and deployment and I’ve lost site of the marketplace and who is doing what in this area. This is where my thesis is sucking wind right now. I can speak to the technical stuff, but I'm having a hard time articulating the value proposition for companies and determining what the actual market for AC's really is. This is a pretty serious flaw in my plan to "knock this thesis out of the park". I need to get out and about quickly. So, why not try a blog. What's the worst that can happen...?

Day 1 on the blog: Part II - Market Research

Ok, so my project requires some extensive research into the marketplace for Assessment Centers. Basically, I need to figure out the current industry structure for AC providers, who are the big players in terms of design and deployment of AC’s and what does the market penetration look like (i.e. how many companies are using AC programs in their talent strategies).

Please post any relevant market data you may have on AC's…is that how blogs work? Sorry if I’m asking something that is not proper etiquette…post whatever you think will positively contribute to me advancing forward on this project.

I'm developing a survey that I'll post tomorrow...so come back and check in...not sure that is blog legal either…oh well…live and learn.
